For today's reading time today go to http://www.moviemistakes.com/
It's fun to point out all the mistakes if you've seen a movie a hundred times and like it. But if you point out errors just to criticize the film, that's when it gets annoying. Every movie has mistakes. Just enjoy the movie, and don't look for any errors.

Welcome Back!
For Reading today read the first 2 or 3 pages of this article and write a response on your blog. A Girl's Nude Photo and Altered Lives
I don't get the whole deal with sexting. The only reason parents are pissed off and calling the police because they actually see people naked. Teens have been having sex way before texting was used. In a way, sexting is less dangerous because they arent actually having sex. But as for the girl who sent pictures of herself, she should be prosecuted. She knew what she did was wrong. Big deal if people turned on her. That's what people do. The law is being too soft on her.

I thought it was cool how they can use so many different shots of an angle. They either had lots of cameras, or lots of time. Either way, it seems like hard work. It takes probably 3 hours of filming to make 3 decent minutes of footage. It would be cool if they used a bird's eye view to see all of the guys doing pilates.

I thought this story was cute. It showed how humans can form strong bonds with animals. It seems like Dom and Maria can understand each other. I've had dogs follow me around like that, but never geese. I wonder what would happen if Dom moved...

Why does New York have a fishing tournament? Shouldn't it be more in the Midwest? There were lots of cool camera effects. I liked how the camera moved along the boat. It's overwhelming to try to sort out the video and the audio at the same time. The parts seem to be moving too fast.

How does Eastview fare against shootings? Jack Groskreutz, p.7 (Broadcast Journalism)
(view footage of columbine) (show interviewee) (picture of eastview, students walking through halls) (home video footage of columbine) (stand up) (interviewee) (students eating together, talking together, having fun, etc…) | Although almost every teen disagrees with Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris’ actions at Columbine, they could still identify with the teens’ feelings of isolation and hurt. “i think their feelings of loneliness and neglect are universal” Eastview High is generally a tolerant place, but there will always bullying in our school. And who’s to say that our high school is safe enough to prevent someone from shooting up our class rooms? “no matter how nice or clean a school is, a teen could still harbor the pent up rage to commit a school shooting.” Even though our school is doing all it can do to protect us, there is always a possibility that one of our own class mates may take out their rage on us, in one way or another. However, is any school perfectly equipped against that, physically? “i dont think anyone can prevent it. its not something i lose sleep over. if someone's going to bring a gun and start shooting kids in the commons, what's stopping them?” At a glance, this may seem like a pessimistic thing to say, but look deeper. If nothing is physically stopping anyone, there must be something emotionally stopping them. Our school has never had any incidents like Columbine or Jonesboro. We should continue to think this, and trust our fellow students. Trust is our greatest shield. Signing off for the 4cast, this is Jackson. |

Susan Smith murdered her two children on October 25th, 1994. The children were 3 years and 14 months old. She reported that she had been carjacked by a black man, but confessed on November 3rd to killing her children. Allegedly, she killed them so she could be with a wealthy man. However, she has made no comments on her choice to not give her estranged husband custody.

Alice In Chains Bassist Mike Starr Dies At 44
The original bassist for Grunge band Alice In Chains died yesterday, in Salt Lake City. Starr played for Alice in Chains on their first four albums, but left in 1993. The band wanted to keep touring, but Starr "just wanted to go back home." He was kicked out due to his drug use. Coincidentally, Layne Staley, the singer of Alice in Chains, died in 2002 due to an overdose. Starr also appeard on VH1's Celebrity Rehab. His cause of death is currently unknown.
other interviews:

yeah, we have a plan and security guards. i think anything more would be overkill.
yeah, i think anyone could if they felt strongly enough.
no, i think their feelings of loneliness and neglect are universal, except they acted on it violently. that would be the difference.
mr. herring:
i dont think anyone can prevent it. its not something i lose sleep over. if someone's going to bting a gun and start shooting kids in the commons, what's stopping them?
generally, we're doing what we can do. so much bullying is electronic, and the bullying in class is what we can't see. adolescents are always going to mess around with each other, and tease each other. but kids can always go to someone.
mental illness. someone who isnt getting treated and diagnosed is so unpredictable. there usually isnt a big red light.
i was sad, didnt feel less safe. it's like 9/11, like an isolated incident. whats more scary is the uprising of shootings after that, with copy-cat kids.

Corey Taylor: " I Don't See A New Slipknot Album Happening"
Corey Taylor was reported as saying that the chances of making a new Slipknot record without Paul Gray are "very slim." Gray, the band's bassist, died last June in an accidental overdose. Taylor said that Gray was the band's "lynchpin", and it just wouldn't be the same without him. On a side note, Taylor still hasn't confirmed or denied that he will be Velvet Revolver's new singer. Taylor has also said that his autobiography will be released on July 12th.
INTERVIEW:
no, the doors are unlocked all day, there's only one teacher watching the doors. there are tons of easy ways to get in to the school.
yes, i believe that is always a possibility, no matter how nice or clean a school is, a teen could still harbor the pent up rage to commit a school shooting.
no, they had the same pressures as kids today. they dealt with their burdens in a very negative and destructive way, but they had the same stress and anxiety as us.
Active/ Passive Quiz:
I got a 9/10 on the quiz. I learned that the basic changes to make a passive sentence to an active sentence are sometimes tricky. But if you say the sentence out loud, you can sort of tell if the sentence is active or passive. Most passive sentences just sound lazy.

Northwestern University Professor Defends Explicit Sex Toy Demonstration After Class
I think that what happened was not offensive, but stupid. What did the teacher think would happen when he had a woman show "explicit acts" in class? This was an after school class, and he DID warn people that it would be graphic. But still, dont hold a kinky class without expecting trouble.
THE INTERVIEW NOTES
-start with green light questions (starts off interview, adds to the comfortableness)
-make eye contact, nod and lean forward to encourage the interviewee to keep talking
-yellow light questions are yes/no questions, which dont get a lot of deep quotes
-"off the record" doesnt mean print the information, but make it anonymous
-make sure you know what questions you want to ask before the interview
-red light questions are overly complicated questions

- My mother was all for it. My father wasn't. "We're just asking for trouble," he said.'
U.S. Marshals dispatched by President Eisenhower, who were overseeing her safety, only allowed Ruby to eat food that she brought from home
A neighbor provided her father with a new job, and local people babysat, watched the house as protectors, and walked behind the federal marshals' car on the trips to school.
Some white families continued to send their children to Frantz despite the protests
her grandparents, who were sharecroppers in Mississippi, were turned off their land

Minnesota Zoo mourns the loss of its oldest dolphin
44 year old April, a female dolphin, dies during a procedure. I thought this was sad, especially since she had a daughter and granddaughter. I remember going to the Minnesota Zoo when I was young, and loved the Dolphin Show. I even remember seeing April. I guess anyone would think it was sad, if they made a connection to an animal.Watch Charlie Sheen Interview: Discuss...
